On June 22, 2023 (Crab Day in Japan), WWF Japan and the Chunichi Shimbun published a joint research report, “Update on the trade flow of Russian crab and IUU risks after the bilateral agreement between Japan and Russia” The 2014 bilateral agreement between Japan and Russia was thought to have prevented the distribution of crabs originating from IUU fisheries, but this study has revealed new IUU risks.
