Statement on Traceability and Port State Measures by Five major international platforms
Five major international platforms for sustainability in the fisheries industry have issued a joint statement that they will focus on landing IUU-risk marine products at ports and blocking their inflow into the supply chain to aim to eradicate IUU (illegal, unreported and unregulated) fisheries.
With more than 150 companies and NGOs affiliated with these five platforms, the statement has a huge impact that can be said to be one of the biggest call to action in the history of the fisheries industry.
In the joint statement, Japan has ratified PSMA (“Illegal, Unreported, Unregulated (IUU) Fisheries Prevention, Control, and Elimination of Port State Measures Agreement (PSMA Agreement)) to companies and governments. Calling for action.
The joint statement calls on companies and governments to take action on the PSMA (Port State Measure Agreement) measures that Japan has ratified.
